What is it?

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as Myalgic Encephalitis (ME), is an illness that affects the nervous system causing extreme fatigue that cannot be explained by any other medical condition. CFS/ME often results in individuals feeling very tired, very often, even when not substantial activity has occurred. Other symptoms may include:

  • Sore throat
  • Tender lymph nodes
  • Muscle pain
  • Multi-joint pain without swelling or redness
  • Headaches of a new type pattern or severity
  • Substantial impairment of short-term memory or concentration
  • Non-refreshing sleep
  • Post-exertion malaise (dramatic worsening of CFS/ ME symptoms due to physical/ mental exertion) lasting more than 24 hours

How we can help

Since feelings of anxiety, depression and loneliness are incredibly common due to the isolating nature of these conditions, I work with individuals suffering CFS/ ME to improve these symptoms (as well as those more physical in nature) using techniques based on the principles of yoga and meditation.

More and more, scientific studies are showing the tremendous benefits of meditation practices for anxiety, depression and strengthening the immune system. The intimate link between the physical and psychological elements of these conditions means that these practices should be an integral part of treatment. Elements of CFS/ ME treatment include:

  • Restorative yoga
  • Mindfulness activities
  • Progressive Relaxation & Body Awareness Meditation.
