What is it?


Diabetes is a serious, complex condition in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood. This autoimmune, metabolic disorder may be due to the immune system destroying beta cells within the pancreas and as a result, failing to producing insulin (Type 1) or the body becoming resistant to the normal effects of insulin and/or gradually loses the capacity to produce enough insulin in the pancreas (Type 2).
