What is it?
PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a mental health condition that some individuals develop after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event, like war combat, a natural disaster, a car accident or physical or sexual assault. While it's normal to have upsetting memories, feel on edge, or have trouble sleeping following this this type of event, PTSD is differentiated by the continuation of these symptoms for several months or more. For some people, PTSD symptoms may start later on, or they may come and go over time.
How we can help
Significant research has found yoga to be an effective, far less toxic treatment option for helping individuals overcome PTSD symptoms and some new studies have also revealed a weekly yoga practice improves heart-rate variability, which is a key indicator of a person's ability to calm his/herself.
Yoga as a technique for PTSD does not involve conscious recall of trauma in the neuroplasticity process, instead yoga repeatedly combines a felt sense of being in the body with comfort, or being in the present (in the now) with awareness, in order to gradually decondition the trauma response
Vaibs employs trauma sensitive yoga techniques focusing on grounding, building presence, connecting with comfort, establishing awareness in the body and gaining insight into its strength- your strength. Vaibs also incorporates other body based interventions such as mindful breathing and progressive body relaxation to mindfully re-establish the individual within their body and gently rebalance the nervous system.
